So often, the word liberal is looking upon with disdain, like a swear word. But it really just means someone who is willing to consider all points of view, and consider change as an option.
Thanks, Andrea! I'm proud to be a liberal (as JFK and HHH have helped me understand it) and was deeply honored to be named a "Timeless Liberal"! You're kind to acknowledge my receiving the award.
Thank you for your "Liberal" definition! For the last 30 plus years I have watched as Democrats who ran for office lose sight of these very ideals you put forth in this defining statement. To suggest being in office is a path to both wealth and power goes without saying, we have all seen this in both Republican and Democrat alike. As stated the purpose of being an elected official was to take care of the people, not the personal gain or the pride of those running. Humility and grace, the inspirational gift of true leadership has been missing for so long, I wonder if it will ever return before we crash this ideal of "Liberty and Justice for all" on the reef of disbelief, lies and puffery.
Thanks for your thoughtful response. Anything that comes before "caring for the welfare of the people" (in JFK's words) certainly runs counter to my rather loose definition of a liberal, which Hubert expressed so eloquently.
First off, congratulations! What an honor.
